In the past when I would think of the Amish I would typically think of places like Lancaster, PA or Ohio, not New York state. However, in recent years we have seen more and more Amish families moving into the Central New York area. I find them to be endlessly fascinating and when we are at our camp in Northern NY (almost to Canada) we make a point to drive around checking out their roadside stands and having wonderful conversations.
I’m telling you, there is nothing better than eating fresh vegetables that are literally being picked as you pull over to the side of the road. We’re lucky if we get back home with anything left because
mommy the girls will sit in the van eating corn, beans, peas, etc. like they’re candy. I. Cannot. Complain.
But what I love most is the feeling of taking a step back in time. Back to a time when things were simple. When people worked hard for what they had. When ALL communities were close knit. When life wasn’t so rushed.
